Mikael Odenberg joined our Board of Directors in 2025, bringing decades of experience in energy infrastructure, public policy, and security.
Before joining Byhmgard, he served as Member of Parliament, as Minister for Defence and later as CEO/Director General of Svenska kraftnät (Swedish National Grid), the Swedish Transmission System Operator.
Mikael Odenberg was Party Spokesman on Energy Affairs in Parliament already in the mid 1990s. During his time at Svenska kraftnät, he was involved in several major infrastructure development projects. He had a decisive role in establishing NordBalt - the DC interconnector between Sweden and the Baltics - and was in 2009 awarded the Grand Cross of Commander of the Order for Merits to Lithuania for strengthening energy security and integrating the Baltic region with the European electricity market.
This background is highly relevant in today’s energy landscape. Successful projects depend on more than just technology and capital; they require a deep understanding of regulation, market structure, and regional dynamics.
As Byhmgard continues to grow in Latvia and across the Baltics, Mikael’s experience brings valuable expertise and long-term perspective to our projects, while also supporting our transition into the new phase, centered on long-term infrastructure ownership and the continued expansion of our Virtual Power Plant platform (VPP).
