Byhmgard has signed construction and operations agreements for our two battery storage projects in Riga, Latvia.
LEC (Latvijas Energoceltnieks) will build both plants on a fixed-price turnkey basis, from design and civil works through to grid connection and commissioning. LEC is one of Latvia's leading power infrastructure contractors and has already delivered utility-scale battery storage for the Latvian transmission system operator.
Alstra Energy takes on long-term operation, with round-the-clock monitoring and guaranteed availability from their Operations Center in Hultsfred.
Each plant is a two-hour system of 14.99 MW and approx. 30 MWh, built from modular liquid-cooled LFP containers that can later be extended to four hours on the same grid connection.
Both plants will operate on a merchant basis, trading on Nord Pool day-ahead and intraday markets alongside delivery of frequency reserves to the Latvian TSO. Since the Baltics synchronised with the continental European grid in February 2025, the region has run its own balancing market with a structural need for fast, flexible capacity. New grid connection capacity in Latvia is scarce, which makes our two secured connections in Riga valuable in themselves.
With contractors, fixed price and delivery organisation now in place, the projects are on track for commercial operation in Q2 2027. The next step is the notice to proceed, which releases construction start and the order of the battery systems.
